Import a dive-computer profile

Profile import stores one source file and one sampled profile on a dive. It can display a depth chart and, when the source includes coordinates, the actual geographic track.

Choose a supported source

  • Profile CSV supports elapsed seconds and depth in metres, with optional timestamp, temperature, tank pressure, PPO2, ceiling, NDL, event, and coordinate columns.
  • UDDF 3.x can contain one or several dives; unsupported versions are rejected rather than guessed.
  • Garmin FIT is validated before known dive messages are read; an activity without usable dive/depth data is not converted into a dive.
  • KML or KMZ can provide a geographic track only. Altitude is never treated as underwater depth, and no depth profile is fabricated.

Review and select the correct candidate

From Add Dive, choose Import from file and drop or browse to the source. A file with one candidate opens Add Dive with the staged preview; a multi-dive UDDF or multi-session FIT file shows separate candidate cards.

Review date, site, depth, runtime, samples, device information, warnings, and chart before selecting a candidate. Unrelated candidates are never merged automatically.

Apply imported values without losing manual work

Apply can fill only empty date/time, runtime, maximum depth, average depth, water temperature, and valid coordinate fields. It never overwrites a non-empty manual value and never saves the dive automatically.

Save the dive to attach the staged profile. On Edit, attach, replace, remove, or download the original profile. View is read-only and shows the saved chart, summary, download, and map track when available.

Interpret the chart and track correctly

The chart plots elapsed time against depth, with greater depth lower on the graph. Temperature and tank pressure appear only when the source supplies them. Display units follow the logbook without changing stored samples.

A geographic source with enough valid points draws the imported path on the dive map. A depth-only profile can still be valid; the map then shows the site marker if site coordinates exist.

If something goes wrong

  • If the file is rejected, confirm its extension, format version, integrity, permitted size, and that it contains usable dive data.
  • If no chart appears, the selected source may contain only a geographic track or no usable depth samples.
  • If imported values do not replace a field, clear that manual field before Apply only when replacement is truly intended.
  • Replacing or removing a profile from a signed dive requires confirmation and invalidates the active signature after acceptance.
